Best Classes

Date caveat (September 2026): Rankings below synthesize 2025–2026 community consensus, including Destructoid’s March 2025 class guide and later Mastery releases such as Starbreaker (January 2026). Patches can reshuffle mid-tiers overnight — treat this as an investment compass, not scripture. Cross-check identities on Classes Overview and return to the Tier List Hub after major updates.

Evaluation bias: classes that support dual perk profiles (mob vs boss) and strong AoE get a slight edge because they win more of the content that consumes player hours — towers, Infinite farms, and Nightmare.

S-Tier — long-term mains

Stormcaller

Elementalist Mastery. Massive AoE, excellent trash clear, and strong extended dungeon uptime. Frequently listed best-in-slot for XP farming and a top Nightmare / overall pick. If you only chase one Mastery for general play, Stormcaller is the safe headline.

Necromancer

Demon Mastery. Insane boss and pack damage with short cooldown patterns. Often shares the “best overall” crown with Stormcaller and leads many Nightmare clear discussions. Ideal if you prefer melee Mastery fantasy with summon pressure.

Mage of Shadows

Mage of Light Mastery. High burst, strong AoE, and excellent status application, tempered by longer cooldowns. Destructoid’s long-term trio explicitly names Stormcaller, Necromancer, and Mage of Shadows — keep it S-tier for accounts planning years of endgame.

A-Tier — excellent and flexible

Dragoon

Tier 4 spear fighter and gateway to Leviathan Mastery. High mobility and solid DPS; needs decent gear to feel fair. Classic mid-to-late bridge before Mastery.

Spirit Archer

Tier 4 bow clear machine and path to Hunter. Outstanding mob XP farming and respectable support utility; boss DPS trails pure Mastery nukers. If your bottleneck is levels, Spirit Archer earns A-tier on productivity alone.

Hunter

Spirit Archer Mastery. Elite boss damage with Burn/Poison application; weaker at huge pack clear. Bring it for Nightmare finals and boss events more than Infinite wave farms.

Warlord

Tier 5 prestige class. Excellent AoE and consistent DPS; “only decent” on pure bosses relative to Necromancer. Fantastic Infinite gear-farm candidate when waves matter more than single-target.

Shadowblade

Tier 5 prestige assassin fantasy. Very high DPS and aggro reset tools; smaller AoE and gear-hungry. Shines when you already own endgame weapons.

Starbreaker

Guardian Mastery (dual greatswords, launched January 2026). Tempo melee dealer built around Starforge-style buffs and wide skill coverage. Strong in standard towers, Nightmare, and moderate Infinite floors; DoT Mastery kits can outscale it on extreme HP sponges. Place high A-tier with patch eyes open.

Leviathan

Dragoon Mastery. High melee damage water kit for players who finished the Dragoon grind. Treat as A-tier aspirational — strength tracks how complete your spear gear and Mastery quest progress are.

B-Tier — strong niches / easy progression

Guardian

Tier 2 greatsword tank. Best early comfort pick for learning World 5 towers: CC, AoE combo potential, and survivability. Not an endgame DPS ceiling, but the correct “stop dying” class for new accounts.

Berserker

Tier 3 rage carry. Extremely high DPS when Rage and gear align; punishing if you misdodge. Great for skilled players bridging toward Tier 4.

Elementalist

Tier 2 status mage and Stormcaller seed. Lower base damage, elite DoT/status identity — surprisingly relevant for Infinite leaderboard logic where percent HP statuses matter. Keep it even after you unlock flashier classes if you push leaderboards.

Demon

Tier 4 life-steal boss specialist and Necromancer seed. Weak trash clear relative to Spirit Archer; farm bosses and Mastery quests on purpose.

Dual Wielder

Tier 2 Swordmaster evolution. High boss DPS, limited AoE, lower survivability. Fine progression step, rarely a final main.

Summoner

Tier 5 prestige. Excellent elite/boss chip, poor wide mob clear. Niche A/B flex depending on whether your week is raid bosses or tower waves — default B for generalists.

Mage of Light & Paladin

Tier 3 support/tank healers. Borderline immortal utility, low personal damage. Queue them when pubs are messy; do not main them for solo XP records.

Tier 1 starters (Swordmaster / Arcane Mage / Defender)

Tutorial tools. Swap off by level 15. Swordmaster remains the friendliest first hour pick per Getting Started.

Suggested career path

  1. Starter → Guardian at Tier 2.
  2. Mid unlocks → Dragoon or Spirit Archer at Tier 4.
  3. Prestige Tier 5 tools as needed (Warlord for waves, Shadowblade for burst).
  4. Mastery finishers → Stormcaller / Necromancer / Mage of Shadows, with Hunter, Leviathan, or Starbreaker if their fantasy and patch notes win you over.

Pick S-tier for the long haul, A-tier for bridges and niches, B-tier for learning and support — and re-verify after every Mastery launch.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask every week.

Are Stormcaller and Necromancer still the best classes?

Yes for most overall and Nightmare discussions across 2025–2026 consensus. Mage of Shadows joins them for long-term investment. Re-check after balance patches.

What should I play before Mastery unlocks?

Guardian early, then Dragoon or Spirit Archer in the mid game. That path matches widely shared progression advice while you grind Mastery quests.

Is Starbreaker S-tier?

Starbreaker is a strong January 2026 Guardian Mastery with high skill damage, rated high A-tier here. Extreme Infinite floors may still favor heavy DoT Mastery kits.

Why are Paladin and Mage of Light ranked lower?

They excel at keeping parties alive but deal low damage, so they lose pure clear-speed rankings. They remain valuable in disorganized pubs.

Does this list consider Infinite Tower?

Yes. Status-heavy kits and wave cleavers are called out separately because leaderboard pushes and gear farms want different tools than Nightmare speedruns.

Where do I learn how each class unlocks?

Classes Overview lists Tier 1–5 gates and Mastery parents. Leveling Guide covers the XP path to each gate.
